An Inspiring Team

During the 4+ years I worked with Kristy at All Roads, I came to appreciate what a positive, focused, smart, capable and determined person she is. She was our first or second employee way back then and I was to learn fast how fortunate we were to have her. But Kristy also had a personal life and more and more I began hearing about Nate, and seeing Kristy applying her skills and passion to her relationship with him. I met Nate 3 times and all were at company functions or parties. The first time was at our Christmas party and he arrived late after attending his own work party I think, and I went and introduced myself  and to help make him feel at home. I needn’t have worried on that score I soon found out, and before I could ask him anything about himself he was grilling me on my family, my kids, my dog and my life in a way that made me feel like I was the only person in the room…with one exception and that was Kristy; whose side he never left.

In the only 2 more “path crossings” I had with Nate in the following couple of years he actually remembered that I had a wife, 2 boys and a dog and wanted to know how they were doing and how I was doing.

All of us that worked with Kristy at All Roads knew of Nate’s diagnosis, treatments, setbacks and more treatments. But what we heard a lot more about from Kristy was his success at just about everything he tried, but most incredibly to finish med school and the rotations you have to go through to become a doctor, all the while being treated for brain cancer and everything that goes with that. And I now know, from the amazing stories and pictures that Kristy and Nate’s family and friends have shared here, that through it all he kept his truly unique and rare personality that made him care more about others than himself.

The journey that Nate and Kristy shared over the last 3 years, and the way that they navigated the roads ahead of them was truly inspiring to us all. From the strength of the love shared by 2 remarkable people, we all bore witness to what an effective and inspiring team they made, particularly in the face of adversity. Nate was lucky to have Kristy at his side every step of the way, and there is no doubt he knew that.

Nate is one of those guys that makes me feel humbled and inadequate in just about every way possible. I wish I had known him better and I know he will be missed terribly by Kristy and both of their families, but they will never lose the North Star they gained from knowing, loving and being loved by him.
