Profoundly Kind

What I will remember most about Nate is undoubtedly his complete kindness and patience. I have met few people in my life who are as profoundly kind as he was. I have never witnessed him get mad or lose his temper even slightly. Even in stressful situations in the emergency department, or when being the responsible friend at parties, he approached all his interactions with respect, good-humour, and empathy.

One of my favourite memories is how at one of our class parties Nate was trying to prevent a certain rowdy friend from jumping from table to table in our lecture hall. He was doing a great job until he turned his back for a split-second and before anyone could do anything, our friend was off sprinting through the tables. The expression of bemused exasperation on Nate’s face remains vivid in my mind.

I can only hope that I am able to show a fraction of the kindness, patience, and grace that Nate was able to demonstrate with apparent ease, in all that he did. I will miss him dearly.
